This month, we’re celebrating a very special milestone – Rosemary Tumaini, one of our talented mechanics in Mombasa, has reached 15 years with the company!
From her first days in ground operations to becoming a trusted member of our maintenance team, her story is one of passion and determination.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your journey and how you started with the company?
Rosemary: The journey has not been easy! I first worked at Moi International Airport as a ground operator, where we marshalled aircraft, managed radio communication, and handled logistics. During that time, I developed a real interest in engineering – I admired how the engineers worked on planes and felt a strong passion for it.
Later, I heard about an administration vacancy at Magnetic Line Mombasa and applied, since it was closer to the field I wanted to be in. Luckily, I got the job, and that’s how my path into engineering began. Today, I’m proud to be celebrating 15 years here.
Q: How did you move from administration to mechanical work?
Rosemary: While doing admin work, I just couldn’t hide my interest in engineering. My manager at the time, Rob De Jong, noticed this and gave me the chance to learn. He would take me out into the field and teach me practical work. Later, I even joined an aeronautics school while still working. That’s when my mechanic journey really started.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being a mechanic at Mombasa station?
Rosemary: Definitely the good working environment and the strong bond I have with the team.
Q: Is there a moment from your career that stands out?
Rosemary: Yes – one of our flights once suffered a bird strike, and the engine had to be replaced. That was an outstanding moment for me, as I got to see the inner parts of the engine while helping with the work.
Q: What keeps you motivated after 15 years?
Rosemary: The goals and dreams I still have. I want to keep growing as an engineer and serving my company at my very best.
Q: How has the workplace changed since you started?
Rosemary: It’s getting better and better. We’re always learning and receiving new things that raise the standard of every situation.
Q: And finally, what does reaching this 15-year milestone mean to you?
Rosemary: It means a lot – both in my work and my life in general. I’ve gained valuable experience that gives me confidence to continue in this field.
A huge congratulations, Rosemary, on 15 years of dedication, growth, and teamwork. We’re grateful to have you as part of the Magnetic team – here’s to many more years ahead!
